‘Falling Into Place’ is an interdisciplinary collaboration between director and filmmaker Flip Kwakkel and fashion designer Zoë Zita Mesman. This collaboration resulted in the narrative fashion film you’ll see tonight, different performances and events, but also a photo expo that we’re premiering and will be hanging in De Nieuwe Anita in the coming month!
But there’s more!
Gerrit Darmin van Balen, the composer for the film, will play his music live for you as well!
So come check out this evening full of vivid experimental fashion, imagery and music!
Some more about the film
Idyllic nature scenery, the sweat-drenched nightclub dancefloor, and a somewhat messy bedroom set the stage to explore the multifaceted meaning of ‘connection’ in this poetic narrative fashion short.
Through the eyes of three distinctive characters, Falling Into Place seeks to understand (re)connecting to others, your environment, and yourself. We follow Sara, who escapes the city with a group of friends. Mia goes clubbing by herself and, after an initial sense of unease, surrenders to the music. Alone in their bedroom, Noa experiments with an array of different garments to engage with their identity.
“Drawing from personal experiences of isolation, friendship, and adolescence we wanted to grasp a universal sense of connection, a transient state that is recognisable yet, at the same, remains elusive. For the film, this feeling of ‘connection’ materialised as a nighttime beachscape shrouded in red light — here, the characters are falling into place.”
