Funkified: The Soul Travelers

Doors open 20.00, concert 21.30 sharp, entrance 7,- (door only, cash preferred)
Een avond vol oude en nieuwe funky music. Met DJ Sorge & DJ Oscar.

The Soul Travelers were sewn in Namibia when Donnie (MC), Guido (guitar), and Bernt (pandeiro) went to visit their good friend Shishani Vranckx. It was there that the organic sound of The Soul Travelers began to grow on the shores of the Atlantic, where the group simply had a lot of time and their favorite tools in tow; a guitar, pandeiro, and a song to share with the world. After returning to Amsterdam in January 2013 and performing their first ceremony, the family continued to expand with Mark Nieuwenhuis on trumpet, first, Koen van den Buuse on acoustic bass, and now with Azubike Onwuka on electric bass. More than 300 ceremonies later the vibration is stronger than ever.

The Soul Travelers released their debut album How Does It Feel? in June of 2017. The album finds the band just as they had grown, very naturally, following the songs more than building them. They had performed these songs for almost four years before recording them and you can feel the live nature in their delivery. The inspirations between the different members vary as widely as music itself and maybe that’s why it’s so hard to pin down the sound, but try something like D’Angelo mixed with Nick Drake, Miles Davis, Yasiin Bey, and Fela Kuti playing some Dave Matthews’ songs with a rapper.

DJ’s Sorge & Oscar
zijn ervaren Amsterdamse deejays en draaien vooral vinyl. Ze hanteren een ruime definitie van funk. Verwacht ook  hip hop, disco, electro funk, acid jazz en afro funk.
