Chapter 3:grief and revenge

Savannah, Luka Prelas, Rasha Hilwi, Jiye, Niloofar (Nila) Fouladi and Marassa. Hosted and curated by Elisa Brunelli

Abstract

Rage is a powerful response to threats or violations. But not all rage is perceived equally: a woman’s anger is too often dismissed, mocked, or demonized.

This chapter follows rage back to one of its roots, grief. A grief that refuses to go quiet, that will not disappear politely, that turns its face outward instead of folding in on itself. And it follows rage into one of its darkest, least-spoken desires, revenge. Revenge promises what grief alone could not give: an ending, a reckoning, a debt finally paid.

On the 25th of November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we explore this through poetry and storytelling.

Marassa (she/her) Marassa is an Amsterdam-born poet & artist with Surinamese roots, blending soulful vocals and poetic storytelling into a unique mix of alt-R&B, pop, and hip-hop. Her music is deeply personal, reflecting her identity, heritage, and the emotional landscapes of modern life. With every track, Marassa creates space for vulnerability and empowerment.

Nila (they/it) Niloofar (Nila) Fouladi is a multidisciplinary artist working with poetry, performance, dance, and color. Their work emerges from a need to exist and express themself in the world. They are not a single person with one nationality, race, or gender, nor a contemporary individual, but countless bodies across all times and places, flowing onto the page.

Jiye (she/her) Jiye is a writer from south {india, korea, holland}. In her poetry, she explores love, labour, and loss. Jiye first performed at Queer Amsterdam in August 2023, and has since performed at De Doelen (Rotterdam), Sonntags Club (Berlin), and Kunstverein Stuttgart. She is also one half of Burta Qollective, an artist-researcher duo .

Savannah  (She/her) is a multidisciplinary artist with a background as a sociologist. Her art comes in the form of theatre, fictional writing and poetry, reflecting on what being means in the margins. Savannah has appeared in multiple tv-programs speaking on Blackness, Transness, and womanhood.

Luka (she/her) Luka Prelas is a Croatian-bred, Zaandam-based writer and spoken word artist. In her work, she explores (her) humanity – traumas, loves, struggles with being a trans “other”, and her solidarities with “other others” – through a trans lens. She won a feminist performance prize at the 2nd Queer and Feminist Awards in 2023 and was a 2025 Spoken Awards finalist.

Rasha (she/her) Rasha Hilwi is a Palestinian writer, storyteller, journalist, editor and DJ. Born in Akka (Acre) and based in Amsterdam. Her debut Arabic non-fiction book, She Remains a Stranger, was published by Khan Aljanub in July 2026. The Dutch translation, Ze blijven een vreemde, will be published by Uitgeverij Jurgen Maas in Amsterdam in November 2026.

Elisa (she/her) Elisa Brunelli is an Italian writer, curator and weaver based in Amsterdam. She explores empathy and vulnerability as tools for building community and dismantling power structures. Her work appears in print and online. In 2025, she was a Spoken Awards finalist and a member of Poetry Circle. She is co-founder of Operattiva and member at post-office.
