Witte Gei’t: Susann. & Selma Peelen
Susann
Susann invites you to wander through her rich harmonies and personal lyrics, exploring what it means to be human. Her compositions are distinguished by theatrical and cinematic elements, soft and subtle – yet upfront, presenting an undercurrent tension. Artists such as Björk, James Blake, Bon Iver and Moses Sumney are a source of inspiration, setting her off on a quest for renewed, dynamic consonance. In 2019, she won the singer-songwriter competition of ‘Mooie Noten’ by GRAP Amsterdam Popmusic, and in 2020 she was named as one of the OOR-talents for the Popronde that year. She played in venues as Paradiso and the Melkweg and is currently working on her debut EP, which will be released in 2024.
Selma Peelen
Selma’s music is largely characterized by a feeling of melancholy, with a healthy dose of anger and fury. Fragile and powerful at the same time, she surprises with original melodic lines and changes in dynamics. Her voice with a wide range can blow you away. Edgy lyrics and captivating live performances top it off.
Her music is a unique blend of genres. It combines elements of folk, alternative pop-noir, with a hint of Mediterranean music and goth-punk. You may call it art-pop, you may call it dark folk. She has created a sound that is both unique and timeless. Her songs are deeply personal and often touch on themes of feminism, sexual freedom and self-discovery, dealing with adversity and of course the torments of love. Her music is greatly inspired by – amongst others – PJ Harvey, Chelsea Wolfe, Emma Ruth Rundle and 16 Horsepower.
