EDGARS RUBENIS
is a Latvian guitarist and composer with background in experimental rock and new music composition. Pains And Boogies, his current three-album project, explores the vitality of fingerpicked steel-string guitar traditions as a source for bold and contemporary music. Working particularly with the forms of early blues and ragtime, in Pains And Boogies Rubenis writes seemingly old yet entirely new music that reveals him as an elaborate guitar player and adventurous, stylistically accurate composer. Risking blunder in search for possible authenticity, this music investigates how various historical materials could meaningfully reemerge at the current point in time.
Performed by Rubenis himself, in concerts this music creates a highly charged atmosphere in which the “sole musician with an acoustic guitar” configuration offers audiences a clearly perceivable and exciting listening experience.

LUKA SCHUURMAN
Luka Schuurman is een componist en gitarist uit de Amsterdamse underground. Op zijn recente album ‘Cuidado’ heeft hij zich laten inspireren door de Portugese bergen en Mediterraanse muziek wat heeft geresulteerd in een serie melancholische en minimalistische composities voor solo gitaar, met veel aandacht voor ruimtelijkheid en stilte. De stukken kunnen associaties oproepen met het werk van artiesten zo breed als Frantz Casseus, John Mclaughlin en Nick Drake, maar zijn als set ook heel duidelijk een wereld op zich.
